AUGUST 2022

Forthcoming Events this Summer

As we pass the midpoint of 2022, it is an appropriate time to reflect on a strong six months for The Nine British Art so far and look forward to the rest of the year with enthusiasm for the new work we are presenting  - both in our gallery and at the British Art Fair.  First, though, we were encouraged by the conversations - and sales - we enjoyed at London Art Fair in late April. The restrictions arising from the pandemic meant that it was our first fair since January 2020, and it was marvellous to meet with our existing collectors in person once again.
We were also appreciative of particularly good sales from new collectors too. That, we think, was due in part to exceptional British painting from the likes of Richard Smith and Jonathan S Hooper, matching the Fair’s desire to highlight exceptional Modern and Contemporary art to aspiring collectors.  Before the Fair, we had planned a special focus on the sculpture in our collection, and to that end we were delighted that there was such strong interest in works by Denis Mitchell, Brian Wall, Richard Fox and Tommy Rowe   We have complementary pieces from many of the artists in our inventory and we are always available to introduce you to their wider body of work.

Living the Landscape - Museum Belvedere, Heerenveen.
This is the first exhibition outside the UK to focus on this important history of British Art.  We have been invited by the museum curators to include sculptures by Denis Mitchell and Brian Wall.  This is an exhibition which is well worth seeing if  you have a chance to visit - on view until 25th September 2022.

Looking forward

Talking of fairs, the British Art Fair is back at the Saatchi Gallery after a three-year hiatus, and we are pleased to be exhibiting there once again. Now under the ownership of Ramsay Fairs, who run sixteen high-profile events around the world, it runs from Thursday September 29 to Sunday October 2.

We are excited to be showing several impressive recently acquired artworks from private collections at the Saatchi Gallery together with a small selection from our contemporary artists.  In the meantime, look out for Blast! A new art market magazine focusing on Modern and Contemporary British art, the launch edition is sponsored by Ramsay Fairs to coincide with the British Art Fair and the artists it features and celebrates should be familiar to our collectors. We are delighted the work we celebrate and specialise in is getting ever-increasing recognition.

Tickets will be sent out in August so do let us know if you are keen to come to see us at the Fair.  Request Tickets for the BAF

Leigh Davis Exhibition - Pushing Boundaries   New Date:  9th - 25th November

We are also delighted to announce a new Leigh Davis exhibition. We recently took a trip to Leigh’s wonderful Staffordshire studio to take in this new series of thirty paintings and five sculptures and came away more convinced than ever that the broad appeal of his painting and sculpture will continue to attract buyers. There will be much more detail in a new catalogue published at the end of September, but for now, we are finding Leigh’s journey deeper into abstraction, untethered from the location-based inspirations of his earlier work and driven by emotion and feel, really fascinating and fluid.

Invitations & catalogues  for the exhibition  will also be sent out end of mid October.

Finally, we will be taking our usual summer break at the gallery from Friday 12th August to Thursday 1st September.

We hope to speak to you before then.
