Limestone ledges stretch from under the cliffs to beneath the sea in several areas along the Dorset coast, tide-washed and eroded by wave action. Fossils, rock pools, sea life, reflections in the wet, rivulets and seaweeds all colour their surfaces. The painting is abstracted to such a degree that it becomes about itself as much as it does about this coastal inspiration.
