Tommy Rowe's long association with St Ives began when working as an assistant to Barbara Hepworth. Given this introduction to sculpture, it is not surprising that his work would draw some inspiration from her aesthetic skills. There is however true integrity in his representation of the rugged landscapes that so many Cornish artists were influenced by and his juxtaposition of rounded forms with the angular interruptions of ovoid space are entirely his own.
