John Plumb passed through many stylistic phases in his career but there is no doubt that the early works are his rarest and most accomplished. The palette, though essentially muted, displays brilliant flashes of yellows and red which serve to industrialise the mechanics of the still life. Apart from being shown at the influential 'Metamorphosis: Figure into Abstract' in Coventry 'Still Life (with Meat Mincer and Mangle)' was also the primary example of 1950’s paintings exhibited in the John Plumb Retrospective in 2015.
