Many of Hepworth’s ‘drawings’ from 1960 onwards were highly individual, stand-alone works and not, as often believed, studies for sculptures. Painted from Hepworth’s Barnaloft Studio, overlooking Porthmeor Beach and the Atlantic Ocean, these works employed iconic, geometrically abstracted string forms to reference the interaction between blue skies and sandy beaches.
