In 1966, Plumb exhibited a number of pure and compositionally austere paintings in New Shapes of Colour at the Stadelijk Museum in Amsterdam, where he found himself in the celebrated company of Josef Albers, Barnett Newman, Mark Rothko and William Turnbull. In 1967, Plumb wrote about Pink and other works saying, "I am primarily concerned with liberating colour as an emotional factor". These works are undoubtedly the most beautiful of his entire career.
