Mount was an artist of prodigious talent, an architectural designer, a painter, sculptor, novelist and accomplished musician. Born in Newton Abbot, Devon, Mount’s initial studies at Paignton School of Art were followed by the Royal College of Art until 1941.
The war years were occupied with ambulance services in North Africa, Paris and Strasbourg then in 1946 Mount returned to the Royal College where he focused on portraits and urban landscape.
After travelling to Nigeria in 1955 and learning much about carving and sculpture Mount returned to England and settled permanently at his studio near St Just, Cornwall, where he remained for the rest of his life.
Sculpture became increasingly important in his oeuvre and he began to exhibit alongside Hepworth and Mitchell before showing with Drian Galleries and Marlborough in London.
He completed a significant series of commissions including the British Steel Corporation and a monumental aluminum structure, The Spirit of Bristol, for York House.
