Hooper's paintings explore the restlessness and the experience of landscape, using the layering of paint as a metaphor for the laying down of memories. Criss-crossing and interweaving waves of texture, colour and form disrupt the familiar signifiers of land, sea and air, creating complex surfaces that can be at once ambiguous and harmonious, blurring and deconstructing the distinctions between the most recognisable elements of landscape.
