Bevan's artistic maturity coincided with his acute awareness of social issues prevalent in the 1980s, which significantly influenced his subject matter. His figure studies were essentially graphic in nature and utilised a minimal black-and-red palette. Works such as Indoors were mostly self-portraits designed to display a charged psychological presence.
