John Plumb held one of his largest solo exhibitions at the Commonwealth Institute in 1973. Massive canvases filled the entire space. All of the works were based on his most contemporary experimentation; the use of distinctly regulated 'colour chart' compositions and random or chance application of colour. Gerhard Richter produced similar works between 1966 and 1972 as did British artist Jeremy Moon.
