Piper was highly versatile and one of the most interesting British artists of the twentieth century, often at the forefront of many elements of prevailing artistic development. Although best known for his paintings, Piper achieved the highest respect for his work in stained glass and ceramics, and immense output of prints. They are innovative, lively, and continuously challenge the medium and included etchings, aquatints, and wood engravings. This lithograph of Fotheringhay Church is very much in character with his oeuvre, which focused on landscapes, churches, and monumental buildings.
