May 1987 is an iconic example of Haigh's exploration of shape and colour. Earlier in his career, he exhibited works to critical acclaim in London at Wildenstein, Zwemmer, and Leicester Galleries. After a thirty-year hiatus, his paintings were shown again at the Pride Gallery in London in 1988 and at the Galerie de Art in Valencia in 1991.
