Painting Orange and Ochre is informed, in part, by Heath’s immersion in a new professional context in the late 1950s. Teaching at Corsham from 1956 introduced him to a different group of artists, including Peter Lanyon, whilst the need to lead students in life classes awakened an interest in human form. The mellow, warm tones contrast strikingly with Heath’s bold earlier palettes.
