Robert de Quin was a member of the Free Painters and Sculptors, a group originally formed in 1952 by artists from the Institute of Contemporary Arts to further the aims and ideals of progressive art in post-war Britain. Other artists in the group included Francis Newton Souza and Frank Avray Wilson and Aubrey Williams.
Discs from 1972 is highly indicative of the group's ethos. Its unique welded steel and brass forms are complex and poetic configurations, with spatial interplay and varied surface patina.
