'Composition 1959' is Wilson at his most dramatic, and clear proof of his Abstract Expressionist directions. With brush and palette knife he has loaded the board with rich green and red hues and signature lines of force or armatures, to define the vivid stained-glass colours. 1959 was a defining year in his career with group shows held by The Arts Council, Redfern Gallery and Galerie International in Paris, alongside Arnaldo Pomodoro and Georges Mathieu.
