Although Underwood’s sculpture is renowned for its diversity of subject and medium the figure in motion was an enduring theme. From the early polished brass 'New Spirit 1932' through to the monumental 'Pursuit of Ideas 1960' (Highgrove Estate) and the textured and complex bronze of 'Weightless Rhythm 1969' his work captures both poise and balance. The cast is widely acknowledged by critics and collectors alike as Underwood’s finest late work.
