In this latest sculpture, Jonathan Clarke has used the acclaimed Constantin Brancusi’s 'Sleeping Muse' as a source of inspiration. The smooth and rounded forehead in 'New Muse' pays homage but thereafter the composition is entirely Clarke's. The angular forms protrude, highlighting the pitted surfaces of aluminium, while the structure sits squarely on the ubiquitous Clarke four-legged plinth. Thoughtful but humorous, this is the artist at his most inventive.
