Bell returned from Florida in 1996 and set up a new studio in Penzance after spending twenty years away from Cornwall. White Field is less flamboyant and smaller in scale than the U.S. paintings and unusual in its retrospective use of a square stretcher as opposed to the irregular, shaped and circular formats of the previous decade.
